GP goes to Cremona, Mifsud, Bezzina, Tagliaferri & CCT Roma

 25.04.10 - On Sunday 25th, at the same hall, the Malta Table Football Sports Association organised the GP for teams and individuals. The teams section, with two foreign clubs participating and two more Maltese, although a long event, managed to be a very interesting one with close results. Finally, the CCT Roma ended up as winners of this section. In the Open Category, the finalist of the International Open, Massimo Cremona (ASD Reggio Emilia) ended up as the winner beating Charlie Aquilina (Bormla SC). The Veterans, just like the  Open category saw the finalist of the International Open as the Winner and Joseph Mifsud (Fiamme Azzurre) took the title in sudden death against Adrian Bonnici (Spezia NFBC '06). The minor categories saw the same winner as the International Open and Darren Bezzina (Hamrun TFC0 and Diego Tagliaferri (Lazio TFC) won the Under 19 and Under 15 respectively.

24.04.10 - The FISTF International Open held on Saturday 24.04.10 at the Magazzino Hall at Viset Malta plc, was a big success in the organisation and also the sport event. In the Open Category Mark Gauci (CCT Roma) was crowned as the winner while the Veterans Category went to Morgan Croce (CCT Roma). The Under 19 category, Darren Bezzina (Hamrun TFC) managed to win the four-player league, arriving first before the favourite Angelo Borg (Pireaus Lions). The Under 15 section winner was the Italian World Champion Diego Tagliaferri (Lazio TFC).

Draws for the Malta Grand Prix and International Open tonite

The Sports Director of the MTFSA, Anthony Sapiano and the Secretary of the mentioned association will be hosting the draws for the Malta Grand Prix and International Open to be held on 24th and 25th April.

Final preparations for the Malta GP & IO

Italy vs Malta Friendly

20.02.10 - The Italian Federation (FISCT) and the Maltese Association (MTFSA) agreed on organising a national friendly between Italy and Malta on the occasion of the first leg of the Italian Championship for clubs. Malta, was to be represented in this competition by four players, namely Massimo Cremona (Flli. Bari Reggio Emilia) and Mark Gauci, Samuel Bartolo and Derek Conti (CCT Roma). The friendly took place at the Fiumicino Hall and the result ended up 1-1.

Canichio/Guidi vs Conti 2-2, Pocheshi vs Cremona 2-2,

Iorio vs Bartolo 1-2, Buono vs Gauci 5-0.

Massimo Cremona wins the International Open

 14.02.10 Massimo Cremona is the winner of the Malta International Open held in Hamrun on the 14th February 2010. Massimo Cremona won the final against Mark Gauci after the two passed the semifinals against Derek Conti and Mark Zammit respectively.  All the winners are as follows:

FISTF Intern. Open Kicks off in Hamrun

13.02.10 - The first International Open of Malta for this season kicks off in Hamrun at 9.30am. Under the control of the Head Referee Anthony Sapiano     and in the presence of television people, the International Open kicks off with the teams’ event. Contemporarily, the U19 and the Veterans section kick off too. There were four teams present at this event. Namely Hamrun TFC - A, Hamrun TFC - B, Attard Subbuteo Club and Bormla Subbuteo Club. The Hamrun TFC - A, after winning the championship 2008-2009 now managed to continue on the winning track by beating the newly formed Bormla Subbuteo Club in the final match of the round robin by 1 goal. The latter, with the experience of Charlie Aquilina managed to get the same results as Hamrun TFC - A against Attard SC and Hamrun TFC - B.

Also, on the day there was the U19 category, where the newly registered Maltese player for the Greek Club Piraeus Lions, Angelo Borg managed to get the title against Matthew Pace in the final. The latter, at the age of 14 is another promising player in the Maltese table football. Angelo Borg won against Nicholas Sciberras and Matthew Pace eliminated Darren Bezzina in the semis.

In the Veterans category, Adrian Bonnici is the winner with a score of 3-0 against the ranked number 8, Joseph Mifsud. Mifsud had an easy drive to the final against Anthony Sapiano     in the semis, while Adrian Bonnici won the semis against his club companion Steve Austin. Both players are registered for Spezia in Italy.

Mark Gauci ends round one at the top

10.02.10 - The National Championship first round came to an end on February 10th. Mark Gauci, the winner of the last two editions of the Maltese National Individual Championship ended round one at the top of the table followed by Joseph Borg Bonaci. In the first division, the founder member of Bormla Subbuteo Club, Josef Camilleri is leading at the top, while in the Second Division the top position is occupied by Darren Bezzina and the young talented player Matthew Pace.

International Open applications

 

01.02.10 - Applications are being received for the Malta International Open under the auspicious of FISTF. The Malta International Open will be held on Saturday 13th and Sunday 14th February. Team event will be held on Saturday!  For more information email maltatablefootball@gmail.com

Silvio Catania elected President of the FISTF

23.01.10 - The Executive Secretary of the MTFSA Silvio Catania during an extra ordinary congress held in Frankfurt was elected as the new FISTF President. He obtained 10 votes out of a total of 17 who expressed their votes. As soon as he was elected he stated that the Provisional Board, as he called the elected board will be calling another election in September 2010. He insisted that the persons working with him were not after any power but only wanted to make some changes for the better of the sports of table football. The photo shows all the persons present at the FISTF Extra Ordinary Congress. The new board is formed by Silvio Catania (Malta), Laurent Garnier (France), Piero Capponi (Spain), Leonidas Koutroumanos (Greece), Stefano De Francesco (Italy) and Alan Collins (England). Stefano Tagliaferri from Italy was appointed Secretary to the Board.

Silvio Catania to contest the post of FISTF President

09.12.09 - The Executive Secretary of the MTFSA Silvio Catania, who is also presently the General Secretary of the FISTF ad-interim officially submitted his candidature for the post of President of the FISTF. All this happened after Malta, together with 6 more countries signed a petition asking for an Extraordinary Congress according to the statutes of FISTF after a serious meeting, as demanded by a number of nations during the Congress held in Rotterdam. Meanwhile, the present board of the FISTF decided that questioning for an Extraordinary Meeting means only and election and this was eventually called. The extraordinary congress will be held in Frankfurt on 23rd and 24th January 2010.

Silver for Gauci, Bronze for Cremona and Fenech

06.12.09 - At the MOC Sports Awards, three members of the Malta Table Football Sports Association managed to reach the Awards Night. During the gala night held at the Grand Hotel Excelsior, the Malta Olympic Committee awarded Mark Gauci with a Silver Sports Award. Melaine Fenech and Massimo Cremona were both awarded a Bronze Sports Award.

Mifsud calls the first national squad

 25.11.09 - MIFSUD calls the first national squad to start the training sessions in preperation for the next world cup! The called players are: ATTARD Kenneth, AQUILINA Charlie, BARTOLO Samuel, BORG BONACI Joseph, CONTI Derek, CREMONA Massimo, MALLIA Hansel, TABONE Jean Carl, ZAMMIT MARMARA Ilai, GAUCI Mark & PACE Stefan.

Four coaches for MTFSA

23.11.09 - The MTFSA nominated four coaches for the various categories in the National sector. Mario Camilleri, Charlie Aquilina, Joseph Mifsud and Adrian Bonnici will be the coaches for the U12 & U15, U19, Open and Veterans categories. Meetings for each category will be held in the coming days!

 

Mallia and Mifsud lead Fiamme Azzurre to Coppa Italia title 

22.11.09 - Maltese players participated as foreign players with their clubs for the Coppa Italia held in Salerno, Italy. In the Masters Coppa Italia, organised for the Serie A clubs, Mark Gauci, Derek Conti and Samuel Bartolo appeared for the capitals of CCT Roma for which they managed quarter finals loosing to Reggiana. In their group, CCT Roma had some positive results and managed second position only to AS Pisa who eventually won the trophy.

At Cadetti Coppa Italia, scheduled for the Serie B, Serie C and Serie D, Hansel Mallia and Joe Mifsud had their debut along with Fiamme Azzurre Roma. Steve Austin also showed off for his first appearance with AS Spezia. Both Fiamme Azzurre and Spezia were thossed in the same group and the Maltese faced each other with Fiamme winning the encounter 2-1 with both qualifying from the group. Spezia, second placed in the group, managed to reach the semi finals only to loose to Ascoli.

On the other hand, Fiamme Azzurre led by the Maltese duo reached the fianl after a fought encounter against Lazio in the semis were Mallia was on form winning 5-1 his match providing the 2-1 overall and a place in the final. Ascoli, a better seeded side, showed motivation but  Fiamme Azzurre showed pace and the Maltese Mallia and Mifsud made the difference in this match. Both won their games which led to a 2-1 victory with the Maltese crowning their debut with a well deserved victory.

 

End of Phase 1 - The Divisions are now decided

15.11.09 - At Marija Assunta School in Hamrun the MTFSA holds the second part of phase 1 championship and now the divisions are decided.

Hamrun TFC 11th in the Europa Cup

08.11.09 - Hamrun TFC, the Maltese representatives in the Europa Cup 2009 held in Tournai manage to arrive to the 11th place out of 32 teams. Drawn in Group D, the Hamrun boys managed to qualify as second team after ASD Reggio Emilia of Massimo Cremona. The Hamrun TFC team won 5 matches in the qualifying group and ended in draw the other 2, thus not loosing any game in the qualifying group. In the last 16, Hamrun TFC had to face Eagles Napoli and the Maltese side lost 2-0. Eagles Napoli ended up winning the tournament. The Maltese team was made of up Stefan Pace, Ilai Zammit Marmara', Mario Camilleri and Kenneth Attard.

Massimo Cremona, Joseph Borg Bonaci and Roderick Sciberras were also participanting with their respective international teams.

MTFSA to host International Open in February

29.10.09 - After submitting the application for an International Open on 13th and 14th February 2010, the MTFSA was honoured with these dates by the FISTF. This means that the International Calendar of the MTFSA is practically covered. The following are the dates for the international appointments:

13th and 14th February 2010 - International Open for individuals and clubs

24th and 25th April 2010 - International Open for individuals and Grand Prix for Individuals and Clubs.

Gauci, Fenech and Cremona for MOC Sports Awards

28.10.09 - The Malta Olympic Committee each year organises the MOC Sports Awards. 1st November 2009, is the closing date for the nominations for each association affiliated to the Malta Olympic Committee. The MTFSA committee agreed that four players currently deserve to be nominated. These are Mark Gauci, present Maltese Champion and semifinalist at the Rotterdam World Cup. Massimo Cremona, third place in the Maltese Championship and winner of the Italian Serie A with Reggio Emilia in Italy. Melaine Fenech, the only lady in the game on the islands and semifinalist in the World Cup in Rotterdam and Joseph Mifsud who achieved very good results (like Mark and Massimo) in the international tournaments.

Unfortunately, the nomination of Joseph Mifsud was not accepted since the criteria was aged for categories not less than 18 and not over 35.

The run for the title started on October 18th

18.10.09 - Spread over twelve pitches, the Malta Table Football Sports Association started the national league phase 1, with more than 40 participants. All the games were held at the Marija Assunta School in Hamrun. The four categories offered a high level of competition amongs the high ranked players and also very promising youths for the future. The second part of this phase will take part on November 15th 2009.

Mrs. Gonzi visits MTFSA stand at National Youth Week

   10.10.09 – The Malta Table Football Sports Association thanks to a Darren Carabott, Nicholas Sciberras, Andrew Abela and Joseph M. Debono participated in the National Youth Week ’09 organised by the Parlamentary Secretrait for Youth and Sports. While a number of games were played, those present had the opportunity to see how this sports is practiced. The event took place at the Power House at the Valletta Water Front.

On the same occasion, youths were involved in the celebrations of the World Mental Heatlh Day. For this occasion, Mrs. Catherine Gonzi was present and after a delivery of speech to the youths, the wife of the Prime Minister visited the stand of the MTFSA.

Mrs. Gonzi asked some information about this sports. She encouraged our youths to continue on this right track, as sports is one of the key elements to stay away from drugs and alcohol.

 

Bormla Subbuteo Club launch official emblem

 09.10.09 - The recently formed Bormla Subbuteo Club launched the emblem of the club. Based on the traditional colours of the locality, blue and white, the new emblem shows the movement of a football player over a subbuteo base. Bertelli ends Conti's dream in Naples

04.10.09 – Satisfactory results for the Maltese guys in the International Open of Naples. Derek Conti, Mark Gauci and Hansel Mallia obtained good results at the Eagles Napoli tournament. In the last 16, the semifinalist of the Open Category in the World Cup in Rotterdam, Mark Gauci lost to Di Vincenzo. Hansel Mallia managed to reach the quarter finals of the competition losing to Bolognino while Derek Conti managed to take Bertelli, fresh from the title of World Champion in Rotterdam, to sudden-death, before the Italian chap could reach the finals and beat Bolognino 4-0.

03.10.09 - During the Saturday event, when the teams are playing, the Maltese players reached maximum the quarter finals with their respective Italian Clubs. Derek Conti and Mark Gauci on the CCT Roma sheet did not manage to over come Black & Blux 1983 Pisa in the quarter finals and the Pisa team qualified thanks to goal average. Mallia, with his new team Fiamme Azzurre was eliminated a session before the quarter finals when they lost to Sessana 1-3. More news to come.

MTFSA confirmed for YOUTH WEEK 2009

03.10.09 - Youth Week 2009 is being organised by the Parliamentary Secretariat for Youths and Sports. Malta Table Football Sports Association was invited to be part of this event to be held between the 8th and 11th October 2009 at the Valletta Water Front. The MTFSA will be giving demonstrations of table football thanks to the young members in the association and the table will be situated at Power House at the Valletta Water Front on Saturday 10th October from 09.00 to 12.00 and 18.00 to 21.00 and on Sunday 11th October 2009 from 09.00 to 12.00.

Hamrun Table Football Club - Kicks off with Summer Cup

 02.10.09  - Summer Cup open seasons 2009/2010 for HTFC. This year the summer cup will be a team event. Each team will be composed of four players. The teams will be drawn up Friday before the competition. Therefore all those interested in participating in this competition should be at the club at Ta' Qali at 6pm. The draws will include only those present at the club! MTFSA wishes HTFC all the best for the coming season!

Sports Director issues fixtures for Phase 1

30.09.09 - As promised, in the annual general meeting held in June 2009, the fixtures for next league national league will be published before hand. The MTFSA committee had already published the days when the national league will take place. Now it was time to publish the fixtures for the first phase of the national league, in order to determine the division of 12 players for each division. The divisions will be namely the PRERMIER, FIRST, SECOND and THIRD division.

September Rankings issued by FISTF

30.09.09 - The FISTF Rankings are published. The Maltese National Team lost two place and from 4th place we went down to 6th. Among the best results we had, one must mention the 23rd place of Melaine Fenech as a new entry. In the Open Category, we have three players namely Mark Gauci (7th), Massimo Cremona (8th) and Derek Conti (19th). One must mention also the 8th place of Angelo Borg in the U19 section and the same place in the Veterans section by Joseph  Mifsud.

We must highlight also the 4th place in the rankings of U15 teams. This was gained after the great performance by Darren Bezzina, Darren Carabott and Angelo during the Rotterdam World Cup where the boys managed to reach the semifinals although they always started with a disadvantage of lost game.

HTFC - Maltese Club Champions

20.09.09 - The Hamrun Table Football Club were crowned champions as the Maltese National Club Championship winners. The HTFC "A" team was formed by Stefan Pace, Mario Camilleri, Kenneth Attard and Ilai Zammit Marmara. Valletta Subbuteo Club lost the battle only on the direct encouter with a result reading 2-1 in favour of the Hamrun "A" team. Other participants in this Championship were, HTFC "B", HTFC "C", Misrah Kola "A" and Misrah Kola "B". HTFC "A" won all the matches as Valletta did not manage only in the direct battle. HTFC "B" obtained the third place.
